- — G. Allen Johnson

The centerpiece of this weekend’s Iranian Film Festival at the San Francisco Art Institute is a tribute to 61-year-old actress Gohar Kheirandish, who will appear in person to accept a lifetime achievement award from the festival after a screening of filmmaker Pouria Heidary Oureh’s new documentary about her work (7:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26).

Other highlights include a screening of master director Mohsen Makhmalbaf ‘s newest film, “The President” (7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27), which imagines a fictional head of state who, traveling with his 5-year-old grandson, disguises himself as a street musician to avoid being recognized.

There’s also a shorts program (11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27) among the 12-program event — certainly an action-packed weekend.
