The final journal of the series comes from the West African country of Mauritania with reporter Sahar Zand (right). When it comes to marriage there, big is beautiful and as a result young girls and women are being forcefed up to 10,000 calories a day. A food shortage has led many to choose an even riskier way to pile on the pounds as they take chemicals – sometimes including some that are meant for animal consumption – with tragic consequences. A truly disturbing watch.
