HATTERS OFF?

Toon outcast facing uncertain future

-

NEWCASTLE United outcast Isaac Hayden is facing an uncertain future after seeing his Luton Town loan deal fall through.

The 28-year-old midfielder was with the Hatters on Monday as he underwent a medical ahead of a proposed season-long switch.

However, less than 24 hours later the deal was off, leaving Hayden in the lurch with just days remaining before the transfer window shuts.

Luton boss Rob Edwards confirmed his side’s interest and the subsequent collapse of the move on Tuesday evening.

He said: “We could not quite agree a deal unfortunately.

“Isaac is someone we had a look at and clearly there was interest. He is a good player.

“We can have a look and see what else we can do in the next couple of days.”

A move to the Premier League new boys felt like a perfect move for both parties as Hayden attempts to rebuild his career away from Tyneside.

The former Arsenal star spent last season on loan at Norwich City but a permanent move failed to materialise after the club’s failure to achieve Championship promotion.

Hayden has been told he has no future at Newcastle after struggling since Eddie Howe’s arrival.

The fan favourite has been training with the under-21s since his return from Norwich earlier this summer.

Hayden, however, seemed to have already came to terms with his Newcastle exit a long time ago.

He told The Chronicle last summer: “There have been times where it has not been enjoyable.

“When it has felt like there is no hope.

“Believe me, the players at times have felt like that in moments where we felt we could not progress as a club and move forward.

“This ownership is only going to improve the club.

“As I and some of the lads discussed before the season ended, the club is going in a new direction.

“They are going to be spending money and bringing in high quality players.

“That is all the players want - you want to get better players in who can help you and help to progress the club.”

Out-of-favour midfielder Jeff Hendrick, like Hayden, Is also yet find a new club.
