Battling butchers

-

A BARBARIC dog meat festival is set to take place again.

A truckload of 2,000 dogs was seen arriving in Yulin last week, ahead of the city’s infamous event.

An estimated 10,000 dogs and cats are killed and eaten each year at the gathering, which starts on June 21.

There were hopes it would not go ahead because of Covid restrictions in China, but sadly this does not look to be the case. The street dogs and stolen pets will be butchered to celebrate the summer solstice.

Volunteers at the NoToDogMeat charity are doing all they can to stop this horror. They have saved many animals’ lives including Felicity’s, left.

The Samoyed was rescued from the meat hook of a butcher, and now lives with charity CEO Julia de Cadenet in London. She even joined her on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival last month. Julia said: “While it is fabulous to see Felicity on the red carpet. It is also important to remember all the other dogs that we are still fighting for, that are not so lucky.”
