Man Utd ethos has Devaney eager to lift trophy
through the academy, United have always pushed. We like to see ourselves as one of the best academies in the country.
“I’ve had that taste of winning trophies so I know what it’s like and what it takes. But obviously the Scottish Cup is completely on another level. We are playing against Celtic and we know how tough that’s going to be.
“The lads have already won one trophy this year and have beaten Celtic in the final. Everyone is really looking forward to it.”
On what it is like being at Man U, he said: “I was at Wembley for the FA Cup final win in 2024; that was another special day. Kobbie [Mainoo] scored a goal and he came through the academy.
“United is all about winning trophies and they can definitely do that again in the future.
“We all got tickets together as a squad. You’re with your mates watching people that you train and play with.
“It was inspiring, seeing a trophy win there was special. I’d been to Wembley before but didn’t have the best of experiences.
“My dad [Martin Devaney] got into the playoffs with Barnsley the year before against Sheffield Wednesday but they lost.
“My dad has been such a massive influence. I remember as a kid going to watch games, seeing the training and the work he put into his career.
“Even though it was towards the end of his career, you see and know what it takes to be a footballer.
“It’s not an easy thing to do but it’s definitely helped me.
“It’s so nice to have someone who has been involved in the game to give you advice, he understands.
“When this opportunity came about, he really thought it was a good idea. It’s a good league, good club, he said, and so far it’s going well.”
