SASARAM: A non-resident Indian (NRI) was allegedly robbed of cash, mobile phone, and other belongings at gunpoint in Bihar’s Sasaram district Wednesday night, police said.

According to police, the victim, identified as Sevi Disilva, is a resident of Goa and was working with a Belgian company as a software engineer and held temporary citizenship of the country.

“On Wednesday, he had to go to Delhi but boarded the wrong train. He later debarked from the train at Sasaram at night and started looking for a hotel when miscreants posing as hotel agents robbed him at an abandoned place and decamped with his belongings,” police said.

Raids are being conducted to nab the miscreants after they withdrew Rs 50,000 from an ATM using the NRI’s debit card in the morning, police said.

“CCTV footage of the ATM is being scanned and efforts are on to arrest the miscreants,” said Santosh Kumar Rai, a subdivisional police officer (SDPO).
