Distressed Kemi Badenoch likes to brand herself an engineer but her North Sea panic reminds us she was actually in software, not building things such as bridges and pipelines.

Economic, scientific and political analysis are glaringly missing in her flat-Earth conversion to extracting every last drop from a British oil field already being pumped dry, with increasingly expensive production.

Output is sold on international markets and does virtually zilch to keep down energy bills but she won’t tell you that, or that investing in North Sea wind electricity is the best financial, security and environmental strategy.
