‘Cousin encouraging my husband’s affair’
TWO Mutare cousins are no longer seeing eye to eye as one of them stands accused of facilitating an affair for the other’s husband.
Dorcas Matika told the court last week that she is being terrorised by her cousin, Enniah Bonde, for beings friends with her husband’s mistress.
Matika runs a boutique in Mutare while Bonde runs a restaurant in the same city.
The relationship between the two cousins has turned so sour to the extent that whenever they meet, Matika allegedly spits on Bonde.
“She is angry that l am friends with Selina Mashava, her husband’s lover. But Mashava is my friend as she is my regular customer. I cannot bar her from buying my products due to the rumours that she is having an affair with my cousin’s husband.
“In fact, l asked Mashava about it and she said she shares a husband with Bonde. She said she is also married to the man in question. While Bonde is my cousin, we are now sworn enemies due to her beef with Mashava,” said Matika.
She told the court that at one time, Bonde teamed up with her friends and threatened to burn her alive in her boutique.
“I heard them planning to burn my boutique. They did not know that I was eavesdropping. When they realised that I had heard their discussion, they left in a huff,” said Matika.
She said Bonde has asked her to choose between her (Bonde) and Mashava.
“Bonde should leave me alone as I am not the one dating her husband. She should not direct her anger towards me, she needs to deal with the real culprits in this matter,” said Mashava.
However, Bonde told the court that Matika is the one encouraging her husband’s affair.
“I have a valid protection order against Mashava and she no longer contacts my husband directly. She now sends her messages through Matika. So my cousin is now the go-between in my husband’s affair with Mashava.
“Matika is my relative but the way she has betrayed me is unthinkable. She has destroyed my marriage,” she said.
However, Bonde denied ever planning to burn Mashava’s boutique.
Mr Xavier Chipato granted a binding protection order to the two cousins.
