dubai — Noor Dubai Foundation announced that it will be distributing 120,000 free reading glasses across mosques in Dubai during Ramadan.

During the holy month of Ramadan and Eid, many Muslims prefer to read the Quran especially during or after prayers. Many mosques provide the Quran book but they do not provide the reading glasses for those who need them.

The initiative, launched by the foundation, will help those who are suffering from presbyopia — loss of the eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects — by checking on their eyesight and giving them the eyeglasses they need to help them enjoy reading.

Humaid Al Qatami, directorgeneral of the Dubai Health Authority and chairman of Noor Dubai Foundation, said that since its inception in 2008, the foundation has already benefitted more than 27 million individuals by providing them with treatment for preventable forms of blindness. It has also been educating the public about the causes of blindness and how to avoid them.

The foundation, in partnership with the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department and with the notable efforts of imams, has distributed 3,000 free reading glasses across 29 mosques last year.
