JK ROWLING has spoken out in support of Donald Trump’s crackdown on transgender and gender identity rights.

The Harry Potter author claimed ‘the Left’ had overseen a ‘calamity’ with their ‘embrace of gender identity ideology’ as she backed the new US President’s action.

Following his inauguration yesterday, Mr Trump signed a flurry of executive orders including the pardoning of US Capitol rioters and exiting the Paris climate agreement. He also ruled that the US will only recognise two sexes – male and female – which are ‘not changeable’, and demanded officials use the term ‘sex’ rather than ‘gender’.

His order mandates ID documents be based on ‘an individual’s immutable biological classification as either male or female’. And federal agencies were urged to end funding to promote ‘gender ideology’.

Mr Trump had a supporter in Ms Rowling, who posted on X: ‘A noisy part of the Left still refuses to step outside their sex-is-a-social-construct bubble and acknowledge that their embrace of gender identity ideology has been a calamity.’

Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said of Mr Trump’s order: ‘We refuse to back down or be intimidated.’
