A footbridge over a small river in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s capital, Kinshasa, was being launched this week when it collapsed — as the ribbon was snipped. Sponsor Hurlaine Badila and her charity DJCEP reportedly commissioned the bridge because of the poor condition of the previous one. Hours after the launch-collapse, it was confirmed that rebuilding had commenced and this time the structure would meet safety standards.
