Calum is central to Cardiff’s planning
CALUM Chambers hopes his move into the Cardiff midfield can trigger another memorable derby day in today’s South Wales derby with Swansea.
Chambers has spent most of his career in defence but admits he is desperate to play further forward.
The last time he enjoyed an extended spell in the engine room was during a period on loan from Arsenal at Fulham.
Chambers capped his time at Craven Cottage with a goal in the clash with Chelsea — and would take more of the same at the Cardiff City Stadium.
He said: “I’ve been loving playing in midfield. It’s always a position I’ve felt I could play throughout my career.
“I had an opportunity to do it at Fulham and had a good run at it. I loved playing there.
Position
“I think the position suits me and what I can bring to the game. It’s definitely something I’m enjoying.
“I have learned from my experiences of playing at centre-back what I would want from a midfielder playing in front of me.
“I’ve taken that into my role there. I like to get about, break up play, get involved going forward and link up between defence and attack.”
He added: “Players do say that (they’d play anywhere) but players do have a preference and midfield is where I like to play.”
Cardiff are unbeaten in four league games and Chambers says the Bluebirds can build on that run in the second half of the season.
He said: “There’s that extra edge to the game. I scored in the FulhamChelsea one, which was nice. It’s got that extra special feel to it, so
I’m very much looking forward to it.”
