Roisin Murphy laments censorship of the arts
Cancelled singer Roisin Murphy has warned that the arts are in a “chokehold” of censorship.
The Irish artist was dragged into a gender row in 2023 after sharing her views about the effects of puberty blockers on children and the faddish nature of being transgender.
The former frontwoman of Moloko said at an event at Parliament: “The creative soul of this country has always thrived on discomfort, on the freedom to be wrong, to offend...
“Without that freedom, we don’t get better art, we simply put artists into a chokehold” She said artists were to frightened to say what they truly felt for fear of losing their funding.
