Police say woman provided marijuana to boy, who got sick after smoking it

A 23-yearold Saugerties woman was accused Friday of providing marijuana to a 15-yearold boy who got sick after smoking it, police said.

Dennisse Torres Rodriguez of 2693 U.S. Route 9W, town of Saugerties, was charged with criminal sale of marijuana, a felony, and with endangerin­g the welfare of a child, a misdemeano­r, according to the Saugerties Police Department.

On Wednesday, Saugerties Police went to Bennett Avenue in the village of Saugerties in response to a report that a 15-year-old boy got sick after smoking marijuana, police said. Police said the boy believed the marijuana was laced with cocaine.

An investigat­ion determined that Rodriguez had provided the teen with marihuana, police said.

After the two had smoked, Rodriguez then drove the teenager to the village of Saugerties, police said. The boy began to get sick and an ambulance was called to the scene, police said.

Paramedics from Diaz Ambulance Services treated the boy, then took him to HealthAlli­ance Hospital’s Broadway Campus in Kingston, police said.

Rodriguez was arrested on Friday, was arraigned in Town of Saugerties Court and released after posting $500 bail. An order of protection was issued by the court on behalf of the victim, police said.

Paramedics from Diaz Ambulance Services treated the boy, then took him to HealthAlli­ance Hospital’s Broadway Campus in Kingston, police said.
