Detectives launch inquiries after two bodies discovered

● Man found on city pavement ● Second body at Bridge of Don

-

Police launched investigations yesterday after two bodies were found in a city.

Officers were called out after a man’s body was found lying on a pavement in the Forresterhill area of Aberdeen at about 3am.

The man, who has not been named, is believed to be in his 50s. It is not yet known how he died. The area was taped off in the early hours of the morning and part of the road, which is one of the main routes to the city’s hospital, was closed off to traffic and the public. The road was closed between Anderson Drive and Ashgrove Road West to allow police to carry out investigations.

A tent was erected over the pavement where the body was found. Police said the man is believed to have walked down Foresterhill Road before he died.

Detective Inspector Lee Jardine said: “This death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish his last movements.

“From police enquiries we understand that he may have walked from the Anderson Drive area to Foresterhill Road around 12:30am on Thursday, 10 December.”

Officers were carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area at about 5am yesterday. One local resident said police were checking whether people living on the street had heard anything during the night.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I got up in the middle of the night and saw blue flashing lights about two or three in the morning.

“I thought nothing of it and went back to bed.”

The man was described by police as being in his mid 50s with a medium build. At the time of his death he was wearing a dark hooded jacket, grey horizontal striped jumper, dark blue jeans and black leather shoes. Officers said there was no threat to the public. Forensics officers were also carrying out investigations in the area to determine how the man died.

The road was re-opened to the public by the afternoon.

Local Labour councillor Lesley Dunbar said: “An unexplained death is always concerning for the residents of the local community.”

Police were also called out to reports of another body found floating at the mouth of the River Don in the Bridge of Don area of the city. The grim discovery was reported to police at about 8:30am.

It is not yet known whether it was a man or a woman.
