sir Joan hotel
Ibiza Town
the lowdown An ultra-modern waterfront resort with a transglobal feel. Best for Hedonists whose raving days aren’t quite behind them.
The latest venture from Amsterdam-based Sir group, the Sir Joan is on a mission: specifically, to offer its guests a unique insight into the Ibizan spirit with a series of unusual excursions called Sir Explore. So, as well as relaxing in one of the hotel’s 38 rooms – luxurious, light-filled, and, thanks to Israeli designers Baranowitz + Kronenberg, brimming with an offbeat nautical vibe – you should take the opportunity to partake in one of the many trips and workshops that are available. From ‘hook ’em and cook ’em’ fishing expeditions to ceramic courses and culinary classes, local experts are on hand to feed your need for an authentic Balearic experience. Nightlife is catered for as well, of course, with a party night at Pacha, one of Ibiza’s most famous venues, complete with a pre-club crash course in throwing shapes on the dancefloor. If all this sounds too much like hard work, then why not just send the kids while you partake of Sir Joan’s tasteful choice in dining – the Izakaya Asian Kitchen & Bar (the sibling of an established Amsterdam eatery) serves up inspired Japanese-peruvian dishes such as sea bass with yuzu soy and truffle infusion – or, for when the teenagers get back from their exertions, check out The Butcher, another Amsterdam offshoot serving top-notch burgers. oh, and do pack a few glad rags, as it’s kind of fun to strike a pose around the bar!
