Joburg’s Art Week takes place from September 5 to 15 and promises a feast of creativity

The number of fairs taking place this year during art week. The newly renamed FNB Art Joburg (previously called the FNB JoburgArtFair) will still take place at the Sandton Convention Centre. Then there’s the addition of Latitudes Art Fair — a new platform for African art in international times — to be held at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, from September 13 to 15. Also showing is UNDERLINE, an exhibition and curatorial platform supporting independent voices in contemporary art, from September 12 to 15 at the Museum of African Design (MOAD) in Maboneng.

different parts of FNB Art Joburg: The main section includes nine major galleries; Gallery Lab, showcasing galleries and hybrid spaces from around the continent and beyond and serving as an incubator, a space for emerging galleries and MAX, dedicated to artworks that use scale and/or medium in a way that makes them difficult or impossible to present in a regular art fair booth. The artworks are by Igshaan Adams, Brett Murray, Misheck Masamvu, Jody Paulsen, Zanele Muholi and Athi-Patra Ruga.
