READER’S LETTER: GREAT AIRSIDE MANNER

-

South Africans normally complain about almost everything. However, I have come across one exceptional service for the disabled, especially those in wheelchairs.

As a family, we recently travelled to

Zambia to visit the Victoria Falls. My wife had had a minor accident 10 weeks before our journey and had to wear a moonboot due to a minor fracture in her right foot. We needed a wheelchair for her at OR Tambo, Port Elizabeth and Livingstone, Zambia, airports.

From the moment of arrival at the airport until we had boarded the plane, she was accompanied by someone to push the wheelchair, right until we had landed and departed to the car hire or car park.

I must add that they provided a professional service, second to none. They were courteous and patient and did everything with a smile. They even assisted at the boarding gates and at customs. This was not only in South Africa but also at

Livingstone in Zambia.

There was also a special waiting room, not only for the disabled person, but also for the accompanying passengers.

How we wish other service providers could execute their functions so professionally and with such smiles. We salute them today.

As a reflection of our appreciation, we as a family will be making a donation to Bethany Children’s Home in Mthatha. — Sookdhev Rajkaran, Mthatha
