Sangley airport proponent taps Munich operator as tech partner
The proponent of the Sangley Point International Airport has tapped Munich Airport as its operational technical partner, according to documents.
The Provincial Government of Cavite, with project development management Cavitex Holdings Inc., CFP Transaction and design consultants Arup and NATS, the UK national air traffic service provider, is the proponent of the planned Sangley Point Airport.
The latest development in the project is the entry of Munich Airport as the proponent’s operational technical partner, a move that bodes well for the project given the track record of Munich Airport, which has been consistently named Europe’s Best Airport by the London-based Skytrax. Munich Airport won the award again this year, marking the 12th time in 14 years that it has earned this honor.
The SPIA project is a national infrastructure project being implemented by the Provincial Government of Cavite as a public-private joint venture.
The selection process for the project officially commenced in October, attracting the attention of seven companies - Metro Pacific, MacroAsia, Prime Asset Ventures, Langham (Megawide), Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions (PAGSS), Moslveldtt, and China Communications Construction, documents showed.
Proponents expect to commence construction of the airport next year or after the expected groundbreaking early 2020 after the project is awarded this year.
The first phase of the Sangley airport with an estimated total cost of roughly $3 billion will have one runway which will operate alongside NAIA and with a designed capacity for 25 million passengers annually, documents showed.
