Cops who opened fire unidentified as forensic report still awaited

FARIDKOT : It has been two years since two persons were killed in police firing during a protest against sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Behbal Kalan village, but the policemen guilty of opening the fire are yet to be identified as the forensic report of arms is still awaited.

Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjeet Singh were shot dead on October 14, 2015, when a large number of people were protesting against the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) government over a sacrilege incident at Bargari of the district.

The police party was headed by then Moga senior superintendent of police (SSP) Charanjit Sharma.

The bullets extracted from the deceased’s bodies and the weapons sanctioned to the battalion deployed at the protest site were sent to the state's Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Mohali.

A total of 25 weapons, including include eight SLRs (7.62 mm), 15 AK-47s, an LMG (7.62mm), an ALR besides 7.62mm bullet(s) were taken in possession for forensic test.

In the latest status report filed in a local court on September 29, the state government said the forensic report was still awaited.

Faridkot senior superintendent of police Nanak Singh said the investigation into the matter under progress and they will pursue the matter once the report is out.

On October 21, 2015, the police had registered a case against unidentified persons under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (acts did by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and the Arms Act at the Bajakhana police station.
